Family is very important to me. I very much want my children to grow up having connections with their extended family members. I love being so close to Jeremy's family. My kids love their grandparents and Jeremy's siblings. It is hard for me not to have my family close, but I am thankful that we get to go and spend time with them occasionally and make memories. We got to go to Illinois this month and celebrate a special occasion. Savannah was born on my dad's birthday. He turned 50 this year so we decided to go and celebrate Savy's 1st and his 50th birthday's together. My dad and I have always had a very close and special bond. I am so thankful that we were able to take this trip and spend this day with him! It was a very relaxing vacation. We did not do much outside of spending time with family. I am grateful that my brother and his wife let us take cousin Kirk the whole week. We had lots of family dinners, went to little Kirk's t-ball game, had a birthday party, and took family pictures. It was wonderful.
The Sunday we spent there we got to go to church in the ward I grew up in. It was fun to see so many familiar faces and let them meet my kids. Britton attended primary there and was a tiger the whole time. I went to check on him and he was down on all fours during the lesson growling at people. It was nice. I had to remind him in church that we are boys and not tigers. He is such a funny kid.
Monday and Tuesday we had down days and spent most of our time on the front porch swing watching the kids play. I LOVED THAT!
Wednesday I got to get together with two friends of mine from high school. It was great to catch up and reconnect with old friends. I hadn't seen one of them in 8-9 years. It is amazing how quickly time passes and yet you get together again and it feels like old times.
Thursday we got to go the local swimming pool and swim. It was lots of fun. The kids really enjoyed it even though the water was ice cold. Savannah had a blast. Uncle Dexter came and is always the life of the party. The boys enjoyed playing with him. The highlight of our day was going to Kirk's t-ball game. He is such a jock and he takes his sports very seriously. He is a rock star on the field and I was so glad we got to see him play.
Friday was the birthday party and family pictures. My brother's wife Jennifer is amazing and had amazing outfits for the kids to wear, lots of decorations for the party, and ordered the most beautiful birthday cakes I have ever seen. She really outdid herself and it was so thoughtful and kind of her.
